One of the first remarkable mixed climbs we did, was Ronin, Bubu's masterpiece in the border area between Italy and Slovenia. M9+ grade is still holding, but the conditions can make it either easier when there's lots of ice, or harder when you have to drytool all the way up to the exit icicle.
You see that HUGE icicle directly behind me? I am still about 10 metres to its hang point. On one try it snapped off, with me on it. Imagine how Luka felt, who was taking photos at the time and was watching me, standing directly under the icicle seconds before it came down. It was another lucky day.
Last year we went back to that nice climb, this time as we are supposed to, without leashes. The climb retained it's beauty and nice technical touch.
Located in Val Dogna valley between Tarvisio and Udine, Julian Alps, Italy. There are a few climbs between M7+ and M9+. This year we intend to add something harder.
Klemen nearing the crux.
